Crimson Desert — FAQ

Here are some tips for new players:

• Do not skip any tutorial messages and text 📖. They provide incredibly relevant information, especially for controls.
• Do not rush the game 🏔️.
• Avoid running into further parts of the map too early, as enemy types and difficulty will increase.
• The first town you arrive in is the most important, as most tutorials happen there.
• Complete the starting missions, including both main story and faction quests ⚔️.

Crafting is a feature in Crimson Desert that allows players to create various items. ⚔️

Players can craft:

• Weapons
• Armor
• Consumables
• Items to improve the quality of your Greymane camp

Equipment can be crafted using Abyss Remnants. These Artifacts are obtained by defeating enemies and bosses, completing quests, or through exploration.

Crafting can be done at a smithy, for example, in your camp.

The crafting system is straightforward. A new R button was added in a recent patch to immediately craft items without needing to worry about substitutions. There are no substitutions for most crafting recipes.

The latest patch introduced several changes and fixes:

• Five summonable mounts were added ⚔️.
• Loading times for fast travel and revival were decreased ⏱️.
• Controls received more changes.
• The stamina system was updated.
• Stealth and thiefing mechanics were changed.
• A new reward system was implemented.
• Movement tech was tweaked:
• It now has a special animation.
• It consumes more stamina with repeated uses.
• It can be used with other weapons, not just one-handed swords.
• The mini map can now be fixed to always point north 🗺️.
• New icons were added to the mini map.
• The skills menu now shows more information on how much stats will change.
• A hotfix addressed an issue where some bosses would sometimes stop moving during combat 🐛.

Fishing in Crimson Desert can be done in two ways: by hand or with a fishing rod. ⚔️

To fish with a fishing rod:

• Acquire a rod: Buy a Fishing Rod from the Provisioner’s Shop in Hernand.
• Equip the rod:
• Equip it from the item wheel (hold D-Pad).
• It replaces the bow slot in your inventory.
• Once equipped and on your back, press the Q key or hold L2 to take the fishing rod out.
• Find a fishing spot:
• Look for a large body of water where you can visibly see fish swimming. Fish are usually in deeper water, such as ponds, lakes, and rivers.
• Hold LT and aim at the water. If you can fish there, your cursor will highlight blue; if not, it will be red.
• Cast your line: Release LT when the cursor is blue, or let go of L2, or hold and then let go of left click.
• Attract fish:
• Wiggle the rod around to make fish bite faster.
• Hold LT and move the analog stick to move your lure in the water. You will see shadowed swimming fish approach.
• Hook the fish: Once a fish bites the lure, press right click, R2, or RT to hook it.
• Reel in the fish:
• This is the trickiest part to avoid breaking the line.
• If the fish goes left, move your rod to the right.
• If the fish goes right, move your rod to the left. You must counter its movement.
• Do not reel if the fish is fighting.
• Wait for the fish to tire out, then you can start reeling it in.

You do not need bait for fishing. 🎣

You can get more inventory slots in Crimson Desert through several methods:

• Complete quests that reward standard inventory expansion tools. ⚔️
• Complete faction quests.
• Purchase inventory expansions from vendors.
• Complete quests that reward an Inventory Bag.

Macduff was the name used for the main character in early prerelease promotional material from 2019. ⚔️

Currently, official material consistently uses the name Kliff for the protagonist, though he is also referred to as Kliff Macduff. It is unclear how much of the older naming and family background remains unchanged in the final version of the story.

His backstory includes:

• He is the son of Martinus.
• He is originally from Kweiden, a harsh land in the north.
• He is the leader of a band of mercenaries called the Greymanes.
• He is described as a man burdened by leadership and a tragic past.
• In recent game footage, Kliff is killed and somehow resurrected.
• A younger version of him is shown being stabbed in the 2020 trailer.

To beat the Tenebrum boss, you must land three successful Force Palm blows on its weak points while flying. ⚔️

First, you need to reveal its weak points:

• Use Blinding Flash - Spot Weakness.
• Hold L1+R1 then press R1 (PlayStation) or hold LB+RB then press RB (Xbox).
• Aim at the flying specter. This will show a square shape on it and mark weak spots with a small red dot. You only need to do this once.

Next, you must hit Tenebrum with Force Palm while flying:

• Double press Square (PlayStation) or X (Xbox) to jump and use your wings over the middle of the plaza. The wind will catapult you up.
• In midair, press R3 (PlayStation) or Right Stick (Xbox) to perform Force Palm.

A recommended strategy is to use a defensive approach:

• Wait for Tenebrum to relocate.
• Follow the shadow trail it leaves, as it relocates where the trail ends.
• Dash forward to that location and quickly land a Force Palm.
• Dash backward immediately to maintain a safe distance from its counterattacks, such as Dark Strike or Dark Whirlwind.
• Repeat this process three times to eliminate the boss. 🎯

This boss battle occurs in Chapter 4 during the Main Quest: Gate to the Otherworld.

Tenebrum is a Boss found in the Scholastone Institute ⚔️. Players encounter it after Octavius summons it during the main quest "Gate of the Otherworld."

This boss has a hollow form, making it difficult to attack, and moves very quickly. Its offensive and defensive capabilities are easily predicted.

The fight is one of the quickest boss battles in the game. You will be flying throughout the battle, so practicing flying maneuvers beforehand is recommended.

To damage Tenebrum, you must use the Blinding Flash - Spot Weakness ability to reveal its weak points. These weak points will appear as small red dots when you are close.

Once weak points are analyzed, use your Aerial Force Palm to launch yourself high enough to use Fly. You can fly indefinitely in this area without stamina drain 🏔️.

Your objective is to land three successful Force Palm blows on Tenebrum to neutralize it. A defensive approach is recommended due to the boss's offensive nature and swift relocations.

Tenebrum has an attack called Dark Strike.

Upon defeat, Tenebrum drops None as rewards.

No, you do not need to keep cooking recipes in your inventory after you have read them. 📖

Once you have learned the information from a recipe, you can sell it to an NPC vendor. This frees up valuable inventory space and provides you with some currency (copper or silver).

The only alternative to selling a recipe is to gift it to an NPC to increase your relationship status with them.
